Two ‘one chance’ suspects were burnt to death on Saturday morning by a mob at Dei-Dei junction, on Zuba-Kubwa express way.
A cyclist, Musa Danjuma, who witnessed the incident, said it happened at about 10:05am when the two suspects attempted to snatch the hand bag of a woman passenger in their vehicle.
He said the woman, whose name could not be identified, boarded the taxi at Zuba on her way to Gwarinpa when the two suspects attempted to snatch her handbag and push her out of the moving vehicle.
He said the woman held the car steering and started struggling with them, which attracted the attention of onlookers who intercepted the taxi.
“When youths at Deidei junction saw the woman struggling with them on the steering, they went after the suspects, intercepted them and dragged them out of the car. They immediately put tyres on their necks and poured petrol and set them on fire,” he said.
When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT police command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the incident, saying the police condemned the killings of the two suspects.
The police warned the youth against taking laws into their hands whenever a suspect was arrested, saying there was need for the public to always hand over suspects to the police for prosecution instead of resorting to jungle justice.
“The police has commenced investigation into the incident and whoever was involved will be prosecuted according to the law,” he added.
